Amazing Adaptogens

https://www.flickr.com/photos/tarynmarie/243305937/sizes/s/ Adaptogens are a unique class of healing plants. They help restore, protect the body, and balance the body’s resistance to stressors (adrenals/HPA axis) while boosting resistance to viruses and bacteria.

The term adaptogen was coined in 1947 by a Russian scientist, N.V. Lazarev, who was interested in substances that helped the body adapt to physical and emotional stress. Adaptogens produce a nonspecific (total body) response that increases resistance against harm from physical and emotional stress (disease, anxiety, etc.). Adaptogens have a normalizing effect, improving the function of many body systems and are nontoxic, causing no significant side effects

Recently, I did a Facebook Live event for the Northern CA Lupus Foundation and one of the questions was on turmeric.

The Amazing Kale Chip

Kale

Kale is one of those amazing vegetables that is chock full of great vitamins and nutrients…but until last year, we didn’t really eat it much. I never grew up eating kale and I had no idea how to make any yummy kale dishes. I tried a kale salad, adding it to soups, but nothing really worked for us… until my husband made kale chips (and I finally did too). Wow! Nowadays, we can barely keep them from being devoured within hours of coming out of the oven.

The most important meal of the day: Breakfast

They say that breakfast is the most important meal of the daily. Sadly, this is the one that most people skip. But, breakfast is very important. It sets the tone for the day. Its like making sure you have gas in your car before you start the engine. By starting the day right, you give yourself an edge on having a great day. For kids, breakfast is essential. The differences in their comprehension, mood, and concentration are astounding. Even The Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion created policies to ensure that school age children were able to obtain breakfast at public schools. Don’t let time in the morning or effort convince you to just send them to school to fend for themselves. If you are able to provide a good breakfast for your children, it is crucial to do so. Schools are on tight budgets and the foods they are able to provide are often a compromise between quality and cost.
